Australia announces plan to support Indonesian election in Bali
Australia extended its commitment on election quality in Indonesia through an election support packet announced on Thursday at the Bali Democracy Forum held in Bali province, a press statement from the Australian Embassy in Jakarta said.
The five-year packet worth 20 million Australian dollars to support democratic election in Indonesia is expected to increase involvement of civil society and enhance public participation in the election process.
The packet includes ongoing partnership funding for the Australian Election Commission and the Indonesian Election Commission, as well as grant program for civil society.
Tim Fischer, the Australian representative at the event, said his country has been supporting regional elections and three national elections in Indonesia since 1999.
"Australia has been working with Indonesia to increase public trust in the election process and democracy," he said.
